WELCOME
Dr. McCane’s research integrates work from rodent and non-human primate models to understand how changes in adolescence promote psychopathology. In particular, her lab studies models of alcohol use disorder and the consequences of alcohol exposure in adolescence on development and aging.
Mentoring Philosophy
My goal as a mentor is to be a foundational part of your mentoring team. As someone who has benefited from and continues to benefit from excellent mentoring, I want to share my experience in hopes that you inherit all the strengths of the mentorship I have acquired during my academic career. I am committed to uplifting and mentoring the next generation of scientists, with a particular emphasis on individuals from marginalized populations.
Broadly, we are interested in understanding the relationship between events that occur in adolescence and the development of psychopathology in adulthood. We use a systems neuroscience approach, employing in vivo electrophysiology, chemogenetics, optogenetics and immunohistochemistry to answer scientific questions.
